This study aimed to identify the attitudes of
translation students at Palestinian universities toward the use of artificial
intelligence (AI) tools in learning translation, determine the level of these
attitudes and the most frequently used tools, and examine differences in
students’ attitudes according to gender, university, and year of study. The
study adopted a quantitative approach using a descriptive survey design. The
study sample consisted of 100 male and female translation students from three
Palestinian universities: An-Najah National University, Birzeit University, and
Al-Quds University. A questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument.
The attitudes scale consisted of 20 items distributed across three dimensions:
perceived usefulness, ease of use and learning, and trust and responsible use.
The overall reliability coefficient of the instrument, measured using
Cronbach’s alpha, was 0.91.
The results showed that translation students
had a high level of positive attitudes toward the use of AI tools in learning
translation, with an overall mean score of 4.02. Perceived usefulness ranked
first with a mean of 4.18, followed by ease of use and learning with a mean of
4.05, and trust and responsible use with a mean of 3.82. The findings also
revealed that ChatGPT was the most frequently used tool (88.0%), followed by
Google Translate (81.0%) and DeepL (57.0%). No statistically significant
differences were found in students’ attitudes attributable to gender,
university, or year of study. Based on these findings, the study recommended
enhancing the integration of AI tools into translation programs and courses,
providing training programs to promote their informed and responsible use,
training students to critically evaluate the linguistic, semantic, and cultural
accuracy of AI-generated outputs, and establishing a clear academic framework
to regulate their use while maintaining academic integrity and preserving the
student’s role in the translation process.
